      <title>Hyde Park Real Estate Market Update for April 2012</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;There were &lt;strong&gt;10&lt;/strong&gt; single family detached homes sold in Hyde Park NY during April; 4 more than same time last year.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The average sale price was&amp;nbsp;&lt;strong&gt; $183,445&lt;/strong&gt;,&amp;nbsp; a bit less than the &lt;strong&gt;$191,143&lt;/strong&gt; from last year.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Price of the homes sold ranged from &lt;strong&gt;$70,000-$300,000.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;During the month &lt;strong&gt;27&lt;/strong&gt; new homes came on the market, ranging from &lt;strong&gt;$78,000 - $1,195,000&lt;/strong&gt;.&amp;nbsp; The most expensive home was built in 1796 and the newest was built in 2002; so you can see there is a variety of inventory to choose from.&lt;/p&gt;

      <title>GIM what is it? And why you should try it</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;span&gt;When I stepped into the &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt;Danny Kaye Theatre&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt; on May 1st I knew very little about seaweed. The seaweed that was discussed is Korean and is known as &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt;GIM&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt;. Since Korea is the largest producer of seaweed, they were the best source for my education on GIM.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;span&gt;So what was the purpose of this event? It was the &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt;launch of a new cookbook by the Culinary Institute of American&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt;, a collaboration with the Korean Agro-Fisheries Trade Center, otherwise called the&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt; AT Center&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt;. The aim of these two organizations is to take GIM beyond Sushi.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;img title="CIA Danny Kaye  Theater" src="http://activerain.com/image_store/uploads/7/3/6/1/7/ar133648437871637.jpg" height="263" alt="Danny Kaye" width="350"&gt;There were several speakers: &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt;Mr. Hyougwan Oh&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt; of the AT Center expressed his gratitude for the collaboration, and welcomed everyone to the event.&lt;img title="Mr Oh of AT Center" src="http://activerain.com/image_store/uploads/8/7/4/2/9/ar13364844792478.jpg" height="167" alt="Mr. OH" width="240"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;span&gt;Yongja Kim&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt;, a journalist and author of Korean Cuisine took us through the process of getting GIM ready for the market. I learned that GIM came in different colors, textures and flavors and most of the GIM is now farmed. It has to be spread out and dried and there are 9 species of GIM farmed. Yongja Kim even discussed some of the dishes prepared by her mother.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;span&gt;Gim is such a versatile nutritious product that is used in soup, salad, condiments, as a binding agent, and as a snack.&lt;img title="Korean Cuisine Author Yougja Kim" src="http://activerain.com/image_store/uploads/7/5/3/1/6/ar133648487361357.jpg" height="255" alt="Yougja Kim" width="350"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;span&gt;The next speaker was &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt;Bun Lai&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt; who owns Miya's Sushi restaurant in New Haven Connecticut. I like what he had to say about Gim. It is the ultimate sustainable food, no need for fertilizer, herbicide or antibiotics (which contribute to disease) unlike other food products. Think of it this way, fish contain many nutrients we need, which the fish gets from seaweed, so, why not go directly to the source. During Bun Lai's &lt;img title="Bun Lai New Haven CT Sushi restaurant owner" src="http://activerain.com/image_store/uploads/4/5/4/7/7/ar133648512277454.jpg" height="301" alt="Bun Lai" width="350"&gt;presentation there were comments from&lt;/span&gt;&lt;a href="http://youtu.be/lg8R_Ro7TmQ"&gt;&lt;span&gt; Dr. Charlie Yarishi&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;span&gt;a leading expert in growing seaweed.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;span&gt;The next Speaker was &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt;Chef Crispo&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt; of the Culinary institute and he is the man behind the cookbook. Not only did he speak about the nutritional value of seaweed he also conducted live demonstrations of some of the recipes. We were treated to&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt; Gim popcorn, Phyllo Triangles &lt;img title="CIA Chef Crispo " src="http://activerain.com/image_store/uploads/9/5/4/1/7/ar133648550371459.jpg" height="197" alt="Chef Crispo" width="350"&gt;Spanokopita, GIM stuffed pork loin wrapped in bacon, Gim ice-cream and each person had in front of them Gim snacks of various flavors and textures&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt;. It was also pointed out that Gim products can be found in stores like Cosco and Trader Joe's as well as Asian markets.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;span&gt;I will never look at seaweed the same way again, I really liked what I tasted and I can't wait to pick up some Gim so I can try some of the recipes.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;span&gt;This book &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt;Fabulous and Flavorful Gim&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt;, a collection of Korean Seaweed Recipes will be put to good use by many of the budding chefs at the CIA. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span&gt;Shoudn't you also try GIM?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;In &lt;strong&gt;Dutchess County during March 2012&lt;/strong&gt; there were 8 less homes sold when compared to same time last year.&amp;nbsp; However, when compared to February 2012&amp;nbsp; there were 20 more sales in March.&amp;nbsp; This could have been a result of seasonal change as well as the fact the winter was mild.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The average price saw a 44.1 percent drop from same time last year going from $475,840 to $265,769 which is an indication &lt;a href="http://actvra.in/7YY" title="Dutchess County market report March 2011"&gt;more expensive homes sold in March 2011&lt;/a&gt;. Actually, there was one sale for over $18,000,000.&amp;nbsp; When you take a look at the median sale price the change was 6.2 percent going from $242,450 to $227,350. So, you can conclude that the majority of Dutchess County homes are being sold in the low $200,000 range.&lt;/p&gt;

There were bikes of all kinds. I wonder where they were heading?
