Auto Show And Apple Blossom Day Kick Off Spring In Rhinebeck & Red Hook

Today I was on Route 33 in Germantown, Columbia County when I noticed the apple blossoms.  It suddenly reminded me of two events in the Rhinebeck and Red Hook area that somewhat officially kick off spring.

First will be the Antique and Classic Car Show at the Dutchess County Fairground in Rhinebeck.  This year it will be held on May 5th and 6th 2007.

This event will be well attended. Attendees will probably include my husband and son.  I prefer to watch the cars go by on there way to and from the show.  I think it is very special that I get the opportunity to see so many unique or classic cars. Somehow the cars of today lack that beauty which makes you want to turn around and stare -maybe it is the shiny chrome and electric colors that catches my eye, I am not sure.

On May 12th , 2007 the Rotary Clubwill host the Apple Blossom festival in Red Hook. This is a fun filled day with vendors in the street, music, antiquing, yard sales and of course fried dough, hot-dogs and hamburgers.  It will be a great day and hopefully the weather will cooperate.

So, if you are thinking of visiting the Red Hook and  Rhinebeck area, either weekend would provide you with some real country fun.

Those apple blossoms are beautiful aren't they? I don't get much of a chance to go upstate but when I see pictures and hear information on the area I always feel like taking a day trip.

Luke - Don't let the spring and summer season go by without visiting upstate, it will be fun, think of it as the  baby,s first trip to the country.

Danny -  That car is a beauty, it is the type of car you would like to take for a ride down the Taconic State Parkway.  The Taconic Parkway was a road way back when where people took country rides on Sundays, it was a rather scenic route.  Now it has been widened for commuting traffic.

You can drive any convertible up and down the Taconic on a sunny day and make a great day of it.  The wife and I like to take the Jeep, pop the top off and go for a spin.  It's beautiful.

Jason -When I commuted to Westchester, I did so on the Taconic, my husband could not understand why.  Sometimes this lady went by in her Jaq and the license read- "Judy's Jag" so I would get day dreaming about going down the Taconic in a red convertible Mercedes Benz.  However since I had no intention of breaking the speed limit it stayed a dream.

Carole - Seeing the flowering trees brought a smile to my face.  Just imagine going by these farms and seeing rows of pink and white flowers.  Now I know spring is here.

If you love the car show you still have time to catch it, it will  be held May 5th and 6th.

Jennifer,

I live in the lower Hudson Valley now.  But Rhinebeck is a fantastic place to be from about May 1st to November 1st every year.

Eric...

That is so true.  Do you attend the various events at the farigounds?

Jennifer,

I have not been to the fairgrounds in ages. I should head up there this summer.  Two side notes on the event topic:

1. My mother-in-law loves attending the Sheep & Wool Festival at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds, in late October.

2. Gena Riede wrote an interesting post on the Asparagus Festival in Sacramento, CA.

Eric...

The Sheep and Wool Festival is a popular festival.  I have a friend in Westchester who looked forward to it yearly, now she is in Seattle I wonder if there is one nearby.

The Asparagus Festival sound awesome, you can do so much with asparagus.  Fortunately I can go down the road and pick it at a nearby farm.
