One necessary ingredient for a community to achieve economic success is affordable housing. This has been a concern for leaders in both the public and private sector in the Hudson Valley area.
One such organization who has been in the forefront of exploring ideas as to how progress can be made in this area is the non for profit, public policy group called Pattern for Progress.
On June 11, 2008 the second conference on Affordable and Workforce Housing will be held at Marist College in Poughkeepsie New York. Here is the agenda
To register for the conference please call 845-565-4900 or email rdegroat@pfprogress.org.

Jennifer, I like that these non-profit organizations take the time to organize these conferences and line up speakers to discuss affordable workforce housing options. There is no point in bringing in higher paying jobs if people have to travel from too far away to get to these jobs whether by car or mass transit. I know in the New York area some travel from very early in the morning by bus in the Poconos to get to NY jobs. With the escalating fuel prices this topic is more important than ever.
Jennifer, affordable housing is a hot topic around here also. Hope they get lots of people attending this event.
Jennifer, I hope this helps people and it's great information to get out there for the public...I haven't seen anything like it around here, I wonder if we have in on LI.
Jennifer, Thanks for the post. I hope consumers will read it . Wish you good luck. I hope they have something in Phila.
Gary - You are right, no point in bringing the jobs if people can't afford to live in the area. This subject does become even more important considering the cost of gas and the impact this will be having.
George - The agenda looks good and I think especially the business community will want to engage in this discussion.
Carole - If your area is not doing this it will only be a matter of time before this conversation will get started.
Gita - I too hope more people will pay attention to this important issue, and here is hoping you will see this discussion in your area.
This is an important issue Jennifer. I am checking my calendar to see if I can attend. Maybe I will see you there.
Hi Jennifer- I wish I could be there to meet you and Paddy- I will be in my class- One more week!! Sounds like a great opportunity! Let me know how it goes
Paddy - I hope you can make it, I expect some rather lively discussions.
Barb - I hope your class is going well. I will update you on the conference. We will meet soon.
Hi Jennifer,
I just wanted to let you know that I can't make it tomorrow. I have too many days out of the office this month already and need to catch up so I can make some money. Always a balance. Hope to meet you soon anyway.
Hi Jennifer,
I was unable to make the housing conference. Please be sure to update us.
Velda - It was so nice talking to you. Actually the conference will be tomorrow the 11th.
