Butterfly Bush
The Butterfly Bush was my pick this week for Monday's Flower because I was so delighted to see a lovely Monarch Butterfly. As you know, the Monarch Butterfly population has declined.
The Butterfly Bush is a perennial and comes in a variety of colors. An easy plant to grow and will multiple. it is important to cut it back in the Fall or early Spring. This plant can grow very tall and wide..
Here is a guide to planting and maintaining your Butterfly Bush.
Besides watching the Butterflies, I also use the Butterfly Bush for cut flowers.
While doing a bit of research I ran into an article about why you should not plant Butterfly Bushes; it caught my attention and it does have some valid points. This plant attracts Butterflies but is it a good plant for Butterflies? Read and draw your own conclusion.
I love gardening and look forward to the blooming plant during the Spring and Summer. I am also passionate about real estate, so if you are looking to sell, or buy a house in the Mid Hudson Valley I would like to represent you. Find homes for sale in the Mid Hudson Valley here.

Jennifer, what a beautiful plant! And yeah, the whole butterfly thing is complicated. My book group read Barbara Kingsolver's Flight Behavior. It was fabulous. Highly recommended.
Pat the decline in the butterfly population is very noticeable. I was so excited to see this one.
Sound like an interesting book by Barbara Kingsolver.
Pat -- this is an incredible photo. The butterfly is beautiful.
I love to see butterflies in the garden. Can't think of a better way to attract them than a Butterfly Bush.
Hi Jennifer, I have 3 butterfly bushes and love to watch the butterflies enjoying them. Thanks for the link for mantaining the butterfly bush.
Hi, Jennifer...This bush is so easy to grow, and if people planted more of it, the butterfly population might come back.
Joan thank you.
Tammie I only regret I seeing so few butterflies.
Love the monarch butterfly, Jennifer. You captured a good photo.
Jennifer I love Monarch Butterflies too and what a fantastic photo moment!, Endre
Jennifer that is a gorgeous shot and would make an excellent picture to frame and hang up on a wall.
Jennifer, very beautiful photo! Unfortunately the butterflies aren't out and about now because it is pouring rain here. Thanks for the beautiful sunny photo.

I can recall plants similar to these growing at my grandmothers home when I was young. They were very low maintenance and bloomed like crazy!
I really like this photo Jennifer. There is something so peaceful about a butterfly.
