Dutchess County NY Trout stocking herald in the fishing season
Trout stocking is music to the ears of those who enjoy Trout fishing in the many streams found in Dutchess County. Fishing is a popular pastime for many and it is nice to see families engaging in such an activity.
Who stocks the streams with Trout?
The streams are stocked by the DEC (Department of Environmental Conservation). There are many Dutchess County streams that get stocked and this activity begins in March. However, April is the month in which the majority of streams are stocked with a few stocked in the May-June time frame. Here is the DEC Trout stocking schedule for 2014. I suspect with the harsh winter some of the March stocking might have been delayed until April.
Now the streams are stocked can you just go fishing?
In Dutchess County you can ‘t just get a fishing line and some worms and go fishing you do need to get a license.
Where do you get the license?
To find out about the fishing license you will have to check with the Town Clerk in your town. That is where you will also get information on any additional regulations if they exist for a particular stream. There are also special regulations for fishing in Dutchess County
If you enjoy Trout fishing you can be confident that Dutchess County will make sure that the waterways are stocked so you can enjoy this pastime in 2014.
