Today was the Red Hook Winter Market but I knew I could not linger long because I had a client coming to town and we had a few houses to look at in Red Hook.
I stopped at the market just as it opened and I had only fifteen
minutes to spare. I found the items I wanted and then decided I would
buy an item I had never purchased before. I took up a crusty, bluish
colored vegetable and I thought I was told it was a
blue radish.
Since I was in such a rush, I'm not certain. So, tonight I thought I
would look up Blue radish recipes but all I could find was recipes with
radishes but the blue in the recipe was blue cheese.
By the way, my showing appointment went well and my client and I now
have a clearer picture about the type of property that will work for
him.
Before I go can anyone tell me what this really is?

I have seen these before in some higher end restaurants and in Saveur magazine. But, other than being a radish (which I believe this one was actually a hybrid with some kind of turnip), I can't recall any other information. Sorry.
Wow a blue radish, never heard of one before, even googled it and nothing! maybe this is a new veggie and it could be a REALTOR RADISH with the color blue!

I tried to search for "blue radish" but was not successful either. It almost looks like a type of mushroom... It must have another name.

I have never seen or heard of one and I'm on board with it not looking too good. Gerry Michaels from Gettysburg posted about a purple asparagus but I think they are a Pennsylvania thing.
That sure is an ugly looking thing Jennifer LOL, but you know sometimes they are the best tasting. We were thinking along with Joan that it looked like a mushroom, but blue radish, never heard of it.....will have to check back to see what you discover! Good luck!

Jennifer, did you buy it because you felt sorry for it? It's certainly not the most appetizing vegetable I've ever seen. But I'm happy to see the mystery was solved. How did it taste?
