Times have changed. Can you believe how far you could stretch 25 cents years ago? Now you probably can't buy a stick of gum for that sum.
The photo references the Rhinebeck Hotel which was later renamed to the Beekman Arms, the oldest continously operated Inn in the country.
Looks like back when the hotel was called the Rhinebeck Hotel your horse could have a good meal or a real comfortable place to spend the night for only 25 cents.
So seriously, what can you buy with 25 cents these days?

I think I'll just mosey on over there and ask to rent the stalls for the night. Cool history!
Fun, those were the good old days. Wonder what they cost today?
LOL, so true. With a quarter, I can buy 15 minutes worth of parking. Pathetic
25 cents won't go very far these days. Have you noticed the prices at the grocery store lately?
They even did away with parking meters because pennies, nickels and dimes are not enough. I had to use a credit card to pay for my parking meter.
Things sure have changed in the last 25 years.
For 25 cents, you can buy one of those huge gumballs that come down the big gumball machine.
I can buy 1 piece of "penny" candy!
Larry the barn is history just like the 25 cents oats :)
Yvonne I am sure the oats cost much more these days :)
Deb I agree :)
Hi Jennifer...I have no idea. I can't even recall the last time I paid $.25 for something. I suppose it was for a postcard stamp. Now they are $.28.
I love the things you find to share with us.
Kate
Carl and Ceil the supermarket gives me a headache, the price goes up weekly.
Donna you mean I could get a sugar fix?
Suzanne what kind?
Hi Kate good to see you. Me too I can't think of anything for 25 cents except for the candy and gumball mentioned above.
You can probably buy something at full price, and have the second one for 25¢.
Now, I'm assuming that they're talking about the guest's horse - not the guest!
Jennifer, looking back at the past of our historic buildings is exciting. Amazing amounts charged!
Jennifer, 25 cents today doesn't even get you much time at a parking meter :)
Hi Jennifer,
25 cents doesn't but much these days does it?! I remember it use to get us into our county fair when I was little. Now it is $7 or $8 to get in. :( Thanks for sharing!
Good question, Jennifer...hmmm, all I could think of was a gumball (and not one of the fancy, big ones...just a regular ol' one)
Jennifer I always enjoy your historical posts - there is so much of it along the Hudson River
Jennifer - Such a fun find! That must have been one cool place to charge that much back then! Hee Hee...
