Well it looks like we will be getting a snowstorm in the Northeast tomorrow. I am sure many feel like I do - it is just too early for a major storm.
There is still time to prepare, so, here are a few tips.
- Go shopping for food, water, snow shovels etc.
- If you have an electric stove you might want to prepare some food ahead of the storm in case the power goes out.
- Make sure to have a good supply of water around, not just for drinking put also for flushing toilets.
- Make sure to have flashlights or other types of lighting in case the power goes out.
- Try to stay off the roads, keep in mind your town might not be totally ready for the snow since it is so early.
- Make sure to have board games on hand to entertain the young ones.
- If you don't have a generator make sure to have a lot of blankets on hand and I hope you have a fireplace or woodstove.
- If you see a power line down stay clear of it.
With good preparation you will be able to ride out this Northeast snow storm and have some fun.

Jennifer, I hope that you stay safe and warm with the storm in your area. I also add to my list a good book to relax and read as the storm rages outside.
Good luck on getting through the snowstorm, what about this amazing weather, kinda wierd for October. Maybe people should dress as snowman for Halloween!!!
Hi Jennifer,
Good Luck this weekend. Most of my family live in the notheast, including both of my sons. Stay Safe
Jennifer, Thanks for the tips to cope with the snow storm. And it certainly does seem too early for a snowstorm on the East Coast. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Jennifer,
Nice snow storm preparation list.
I hope the snow storm will be gentle to you and your city.
Keep safe!
And don't forget to have a carrot handy for the snowman's nose! :)
Hey Jen,
Is that you in the photo? At this point, it's a little early isn't it for a snow storm?
Gary I probably won't sit long enough to read; however I might entertain a game of scrabble at some point.
Ted yes it has been a weird weather year.
Llyod I hope your family stays safe too.
Carlotta yes it is way too soon. If the budget for snow removal kicks in October we might run out of funds in the middle of the winter, an added burden on local government.
Valerie the kids are grown, instead on making a snowman I get to shovel :)
Lynda yes I am the person in the photo. Way too early for this.
Have a great weekend to you all.
Jennifer - I'm hoping our great fall days will last, but I know winter is right around the corner. Great winter storm tips. You can never be too prepared. Thanks for sharing!
Jennifer - Seems a bit early to be getting snow. We do not have any in the foreseeable future in our forecast up here.
Great tips. Not happy abt this one as I have an appt w/ a repeat cusotmer. Hoping I can still make it or move it earlier in the day.
Seems awful early for a snowfall. Oh well, great tips. Raining here in Florida but at least it is still warm!
omy goodness, I am not looking forward to snow yet...plus we have the MJ Thriller dance tonight...at 10pm...it's going to be freezing at coney island! yikes!
Hi Jennifer, I hope you have a good weekend and don't lose power. As long as we can stay inide, be warm and have food to eat- those winter storms aren't so bad. You have prepared a great list to make it through the storm! Keep warm, I will be thinking of you.
Enjoy the snow! With your preparation tips completed, everyone can sit back, relax and watch the beauty of it!
Jennifer I can't believe we are already getting this much snow in October. The trees still have leaves on them, and branches are breaking off because of the weight of the snow. I hope we are not in for a repeat of last year.
Jennifer - The weather is amazing. We had a brutal winter last year, no real Spring due to rain, a whisp of a summer, and now winter again! I didn't even get to see the fall foliage! I was catching up on paperwork today and didn't even know it was snowing until a client called and told me. They predicted rain for my area. Right now I'm having a glass of champagne and just finished making Julia Child's recipe for Chicken Fricassee, my all time favorite dish. Hope you have a great evening!
Great tips, Jennifer, but I know I am not ready for snow in Texas especially after all the heat. I hope you are enjoying what snow you did receive.
Shortly after I made my comment the electricity went out until this afternoon.
Laura I was happy I followed my own advise especially about water :)
Marc I hope it stays that way for you. Many branches came down, and lots of people without power.
Debbie I had to cancel my appointments too, and I am glad I did because the storm came as predicted.
Hi Jen -
Yikes! I didn't realize you guys got that much snow!!! When you get tired of shoveling head to Albuquerque where we have 310+ days of sun a year. Now I must check out the news to see if you're in for more or back to fall weather.
Best regards from the Q
Gary the worst was we lost power.
Laura I hope your dance went well.
Mary the power went, but we had lots of food. I just piled on the blankets.
Ann it was pretty but damaged some trees.
GIRL! You have really got to get someone else to shovel that snow for you! Tell them I said that "princesses should not have to use a shovel!" ;)))
Joni too funny, you wouldn't call me a princess if you saw me swinging an axe and a machete today trying to clean up broken branches :)
