Janet's Jerk Stop is the place to go for Jamaica food in Poughkeepsie. I have known Janet for years I first met her at the culinary at an event we both participated in. A few years ago she had to relocate from s Academy Street and I did not see her as much.
This Tuesday I was at a closing on Mill Street and I asked the attorney's for direction to the closest Jamaican restaurant and they mentioned Janet's on Academy Street, I thought they must have been talking about a few years ago but no! Janet had return 3 weeks ago at a location across from the old location.
I knew my clients would love the Janet treatment so off we went. She was delighted to see us and even though what we wanted was not on the day's menu she said "No Problem" and set about cooking us Ackee and Salt fish. Okay if you don't know what that is I suspect you have not been to Jamaica, but now you know you can discover it at Janet's.
The resturant decor was very pleasant, African and Jamican Artwork on the way and nice space between tables.
So what I am going to do next is to show you what the inside of the restaurant looks like and a glimpse of some of the food.

Jennifer--What a cool looking restaurant! I am certain your clients enjoyed the food as much as you did.
Yummmmm that looks like a great place to eat! Wish it was closer.
Jennifer I do not know what "Ackee and Salt fish" is but I have had Jamaican patties and they are great. I guess I should branch out to other Jamaican food as well.
Teri they did. Janet has a way of making everyone welcome.
Joan - I am sure you would enjoy the food.
George I love the patties but you should also try some other item.
Akee is a fruit that is cooked with salted Cod.
Cute restaurant and great pictures of the food. Very appealing- I LOVE jerk chicken, boiled banana, pumpkin rice, Irish Moss, oh my, I could go on and on! I'm in Dallas but I travel quite a bit. I will definitely write this in my travel planner.
Word of mouth is a powerful form of advertising so the owner is truly blessed that you were kind enough to share your compliment. Wishing you both continued success.
