This unique c1706 stone house has been renovated with central air added to provide modern convenience while still retaining the original architectural inception.  Located on almost 6 acres high above the Hudson River.   Step inside where you will find a large fireplace and 14 inch Chestnut beams in the living room.  Rich in history, the home was built in two sections and you can still seel evidence of where the original fireplace was and the second section begins.

On the first floor you will find the living room, a formal dining room, a family room,  kitchen, and a small sitting room and laundry room.   Upstairs are the bedrooms, one having direct access to the enclosed porch which looks out on the wide open lawn and locust trees.

On the second floor you will be able to walk up to the large attic.   When you step outside take a look at the roof, and, you will notice there is one chimney on the end and the other in the middle - another clue that this home was built in two stages.

Behind this 304 year old home, also known as the Abraham Kip house, you will find a lovely one bedroom guest cottage equipped with a gas woodstove.  Below the cottage is a large studio, perfect for any hobbyist.   All of this comes with a view of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains and is conveniently located to the Amtrak station, village of Rhinebeck, with its highly rated restaurants, and scenic River Road.

History

Oldest house in Dutchess County. Built by Dutch pioneering settlers Jacob and Abraham Kip over 300 years ago (c. 1706). Listed on National Historic Register. Features huge beams of chestnut tree seeded before the discovery of America. The home was used as a tavern in the eighteenth century. The property was purchased in 1686 from three Native American chiefs. Located in Kipsbergen (now Rhinecliff) named after first settlers Hendrick and Jacob Kip, at the terminus of one of the main roads to Connecticut. This site became a thriving commercial landing, "Long Dock." In front of the house, the road is a part of the Sepasco Trail - a Native American trail that extended from Long Dock to the present village of Rhinebeck.

Neighborhood

6 Long Dock Road is located between the village of Rhinebeck and the hamlet of Rhinecliff in a national historic scenic district near River Road.

In Rhinecliff  you will find the Amtrak station, a dock where many launch their kayaks into the Hudson River.  Looking to dine while enjoying a view of the Hudson River? then stop in at the popular restaurant at The Rhinecliff Hotel.

For a scenic ride just around the bend is River Road, where you will see open fields with great views of the Catskill Mountains and Poet's Walk, a historic park operated by Scenic Hudson.  Here too you will find Montgomery Place a historic site.  In the mood for cultural activities? Continue on this road and you will come to  the Fisher Center, home of Summerscape at Bard College.

If you are looking to shop or enjoy a cup of coffee then head into the village where you will also find many fine restaurants.

Leesa this is really a lovely property and it comes with so much history.  Stone houses are not easy to come by so I am hoping  it will have a buyer soon.  It is located just about 2 minutes from the estate where Cheslea Clinton had her wedding.

Joan this is truly a lovely site.  It was once used as a tavern, so can you imagine the stories that could be told if only the walls could talk?
