Jean Hasbrouck House On Huguenot Street In New Paltz NY

Jean Hasbrouck House On Huguenot Street In New Paltz NY

The Jean Hasbrouck house is the first of the historical house you will see if you approach Huguenot street from North Front street.

According to the historical marker in front of the house it was built around 1712 but some further research now points toward the 1720's.  If that was the case,  then Jean never lived in the house since he died in 1714, so the house was probably built by the son.

Today the Jean Hasbrouck house is also called the Memorial House and is now  home to a museum about the Huguenot settlement as well as the Huguenot Historical society.

Places like this are exactly why I want to visit the east coast. We just don't have homes this old here, heck the west wasn't really discovered until the mid 1800s.

I love these historical home posts! So very interesting. I agree with Todd, our western history doesn't go back nearly as far! Well, unless you go back to the Spaniards, but there isn't as much of that left....

Todd You would not be disappoint by a trip to the East, we do have lots of old homes and historic sites.

Interesting old construction style. This brings a new meaning to the saying this is a rock solid home. Thanks for the history from your area.
