The Bear Mountain Bridge is yet another photo in my bridge series that I took from a moving train. This is a suspension bridge over the Hudson River and was put into operation in 1924.
This bridge connects Peeksill in Westchester county on the east side of the river, to Orange County in the west. The area is very scenic and Bear Mountain Park is a popular recreational destination.
Many travel this Bridge to get too and from another well known national institution, West Point, which is located just about 20 minutes from the east side of the bridge.

Jennifer, so, that is pretty cool! I just love the Hudson River Valley. Thank you, I look forward to more.
That looks like a cold ride over that water. Nice pics though.
Hi Jenn,
More great bridge photos. I somehow missed these were taken during a train trip. I love seeing those frozen waterways.
Andrea I have more however my husband told me my friends must be sick of my bridges so my question is: would you like to see the shots of the Tappan Zee? ... :)
Heath you are right it was a bone chilling day, yet beautiful.
Lynda I took the photos out the window of a moving train. My main subject were the bridges and rocks.
Wowee! Now that is a long cool ride :)
Jennifer I am always amazed on not only how they can span a bridge over long distances like that, but the weight these structures can support as well.
Jennifer,
It's amazing how architechs and structural engineers do bridges like these :) btw great photos as always!
Jennifer, I have enjoyed your series of photos taken from the train! Thank you for sharing them with us!
Jennifer there are so many great sites in your area. You do a great job showcasing all of them:)
Jennifer that looks like some cold flipping water, great shot of the bridge.
Wow! Look at that frozen river! Glad you were warmly tucked inside the train!

Jennifer, Fond memories of travelling the BM Bridge to Orange County when we lived in Mahanttan. Once was a nailbiter in a snowstorm! Lovely photo, thanks! Ginger
That is quite a span on that bridge. You picked a beautiful time of the year for the picture with the ice floes and all. I still think about those robots you had a few weeks ago.
Jennifer - I know that bridge well.. Looks really cool { no pun intended } I used to do a lot of hiking in Harriman Pk. Nice shots.
I think that's about the iciest looking river I've seen in a very long time! That's a great looking bridge!
Sally no argument here.
George Those are thought I also have. It is truly amazing
Ray I don't think we often think about how much impact engineers and architects have on our lives.
Tony and Darcy It was my pleasure.
Bill I love this area so it is easy to show it off. I also appreciate all the places I have visited from my living rooms thanks to the members here.
Debi me too.
Ginger I don't like bridges in a snow storm, so I can imagine how awful that must have been.
Guy It is a pleasure sharing these photos. I was delighted that these shots from the train came out.

Robert That is a great area to hike. The hudson River is so interesting in what ever weather condition.
Myrl - The ice made the river a more interesting subject.
This looks like something in Alaska. Great pictures, Jennifer.
Hi Jennifer, this is icey icey! And what a long bridge!
Jennifer, these beautiful photos make me want to grab my snuggly slippers - looks so cold out there!
Nice pictures. I bet the ride is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
