Now that winter is officially here, I have turned my attention to summer with the hope of forgetting the expected frigid weather conditions.
One place I love visiting is Block Island in Rhode Island; with 17 miles of beach and a slower pace of life it really fits right in with my idea of vacation.
When I visit, I spend many hours just walking around the island, discovering new plants, visiting the the lighthouses, watching the boats and other tourists biking. after a nice long walk I always look forward to finding a place where my favorite ice cream is served, rum raisin. At the end of the day I am usually very tired (but a good tired) and with the air from the ocean I also get a good night's sleep.

Jennifer, it's been many many years since I went to Block Island. We used to have a summer place down in Point Judith, RI, where the Block Island Ferry was. When my sister and I visited the lighthouse on the island, the worker there said that we were the first "Blocks" she could ever remember visiting.
We said we were coming back to claim our island.
Jennifer, I love the picture of Block Island. We went to Newport Rhode Island for our vacation this last September and it was VERY COOL! I guess next time we will have to check Block Island out.
Brian - I really love that pace, a bit low key when compared to the other popular places nearby. I fully support you claiming the island and you have the last name to prove it.....lol.
Marchel Newport is also a place I love to visit. I hope while you were there you took the cliff walk. I know you would like Block Island.
Boy does this sound good right about now Jennifer! I can't wait for summer:)
Jennifer - Another great shot you have captured!! Don't wish winter away though - it means we are getting older! ;) And Rum Raisin? Me TOO!
Bill I am reliving summer through pictures. I can't understand why cold weather seem to linger.
Leesa Winter does reminds me I am getting older, all the aches and pains are more noticeable at this time of year. A rum raisin ice cream could make it all better....lol
That sounds so nice. We've never been to Block Island and really RI is not that far away from NH.
Jennifer,
Looks like my kind of place.....I've never been to RI however hope to make it there some day.
Lovely photo!
Jo
Jennifer I have been there only once, 32 years ago, and it still looks just like I remember it.
Jennifer, I have never been to Block Island but would like to go. A show on it not long ago mentioned it is believed to be one of the most "haunted" places in the country. I don't know about that but I did hear it was just beautiful!
Would not mind visiting at all. So, you are just going to bypass Spring altogether huh? The rum raising ice cream sounds delicious!

Oww that reminds of a fanastic day of fishing ... can't wait for summer!! I love the changing of seasons, but the extra daylight and warm weather options I do miss :)
Jennifer Just stopped by to wish you a Happy and Prosperous New Year
Jennifer, oh boy does that look good today, boy am I cold cold col!
Jennifer, I think Block Island is so much nicer than Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket. It's probably what those places were like before the jet set arrived.
Monika - I think you would like it very much.
Jo-Anne - Rhode Island does have much to see, the trip would be well worth it.
George That is part of the charm and I hope it stays that way.
Carole I can tell you it is a beautiful spot. Next time instead of Cape Cod you could visit Newport and Block Island.
Diane I guess I really couldn't do that, I do need to get my plants in the ground.....lol
Rum raisin is great. As a child I use to look forward to getting it on a Sunday. The vendor would come by; that was the bes ice cream I have had,t but I still love the ones I can find now.
Steve I think you would enjoy fishing off this island.
Karen thank you and same to you.
Andrea that wind chill was brutal.
Gail I have been to the others and I agree. I hope Block Island remain in it's present state.
Jennifer, I like days like that , too. there is something about the ocean and teh bays that surround it. Oh, and by the way, I will take the house in the middle.
Jennifer, great job! The chill shows in the color of the sky. Bright blue, and it might have been August.
Hey Jennifer! Block Island is one of my most favorite places in the world.
We started going every summer when my son was 5 - until he went away to sleepaway camp at 12. We have some fabulous memories and my son often speaks of the times we spent there. Those days were magical.
Thanks for the memories. :-)
I am just looking for a little Spring weather!
all the best in 2010
your friend in Charlottesville!
jennifer, I have not yet been to Block Island.Your post makes me want to go there.
