Speechless Sunday |Misty Morning

Misty Morning

I was on my way  to put signs up on a parcel of land I had listed when I ran across the morning mist.  There is always something intriguing about going through the mist, and down this country road there was much to see. When I came to this barn with the beautiful landscape behind it I just had to stop and take a shot, this was my favorite scene of that misty morning.

Speechless Sunday| How I long for the good old days

Brick Housefor the good old days

Speechless Sunday| How I long for the good old days

For years I have passed this Hudson NY old brick house, I knew it was old by the type of brick as well as the old tin roof. I suspect in the good old days it was probably th residence of someone with a bit of money. Okay I don't know the real story I just made that up :)

What I do know is that it was there before the cement factory. To the left of the house is an overpass which went directly to the cement factory, however, once the factory came about the old brick house no longer serviced the purpose of a residence.

This home certainly long for the good old days.

Speechless Sunday|The Outhouse

Living in the Hudson Valley I run across buildings from other periods.   Over the years of have seen a variety of outhouses.  Some were ornate and other were just plain.

The one in the photography was on the grounds of Cedar Grove one of the many Historic sites to be found in the area.  I must say the colors certainly make you take a second look,

Speechless Sunday|Glorious sunset

A few days ago we were coming back from a day trip when we noticed the sunset and the rather pinkish sky. My husband pulled over so we could take some shots.  I was too tired to get out of the car so I took my shots from the car window while complaining that he was in my way, as you can see he was.

Speechless Sunday-Take a bath and have lunch

I saw this scene yesterday and I just could not resist.  The outdoor dining set right next to the bath tub; yes take a quick bath and then have lunch.  On second thought, that is not a great idea since it is outdoors :)

So what do you find interesting about this photo?

Speechless Sunday: Where did the years go?

Today is truly a speechless Sunday, I am here pondering where did the years go?  What am I talking about?

You see, I got married 29 years ago today.  Thinking about it, I suddenly realized I am getting up there, where ever there is:)

Thought I would have some fun with this by sending my husband to get his card at Activerain.

Speechless Sunday-Hay Hay

SPEECHLESS SUNDAY-HAY HAY

Hay

Hay is a favorite photography subject for me because there are many farms in the area.  I just took a look at Google and it seems I am not alone.

The first time I saw a bale of hay I had no idea as to what it would be used for.  Since then I have found out how important it is to the food supply, since hay is a form of food for livestock.

Hay Hay!

Speechless Sunday-An Iris

Yesterday I wrote a post entitled "Do you look below the surface?" using an unopened Iris.  I promised that for Speechless Sunday I would show what was below the surface of that Iris, so here goes:

 Open Iris

Yes that unopened Iris was not as attractive, especially for someone who might not know what an opened Iris looked like.  For us who knew better we would have expected to see this awesome show of colors in days.

Speechless Sunday-The Story of Tree in the middle of the field

Tree

tree with one limb

If you have ever visited Red Hook and found yourself on Budds Corners Road, this is a tree you would remember.  In these photos the ground is covered with snow but there are times the tree is surrounded by corn or other crops.   I have had the pleasure of seeing it in all seasons and I know somewhere in my collections of photos I have photos of it in other seasons.

With some bad weather this winter the tree came down; on closer examination it was clear that  the inside was rotted.  When you take a second look all is not lost there is still one limb left.  I am rooting for this tree that the one limb will come alive this spring.

Funny enough I thought I was the only one who was following the story of this tree, but when i mentioned it to several residents they too thought the tree was special, somewhat of a landmark. I even had a request for any photos I might have.  Yes, even a small tree can touch our lives.

It must be cold outside wouldn't you say?

It must be cold outside wouldn't you say?  I can't remember the last time I have seen icicles this big in Rhinebeck.  You are probably thinking this must be Jennifer's igloo, well it is not.

Many of the homes I have seen in the last few days do have icicles and that is to be expected since all the trees are also covered.

So what are the best practices for removing icicles?

Oh by the way don't stand under the icicle and hit it at the same time.  I tried that and almost got hit in the head :)

So here is one memory of the 2011 winter season.
