Rhinecliff  the oldest Hamlet on the Hudson River in Rhinebeck New York. It has spectacular views of the Catskill Mountains and Ulster County on the western banks.

Rhinecliff was founded in 1686 by five Dutchmen and was orignally called Kipsbergen, named for one of the founders.  There are still many historic homes to be found in Rhinecliff including one known as the Kip House that is presently a private residence.  It is the oldest continous hamlet on the banks of the Hudson River, so no wonder it is listed on National Register of Historic Places.Kip House in Rhinecliff

Rhinecliff is a fully functioning community has an advisory board that communicates with the town of Rhinebeck, as well as a post office, a library, and fire house. The town is also connected via social media such as twitter where regular postings keep visitors and residents up-to-date on upcoming events.

The only Amtrak stop in Northern Dutchess is located here and just steps away is the Rhincliff Hotel which was renovated just a few years ago.  This hotel and restaurant is now a popular spot for weddings and other functions wishing to use the beautiful banquet room  overlooking the river.

Located less than five minutes away is the village of Rhinebeck where you will find many unique shops and fine restaurants.  On the way, you will also pass the Starr Library and behind the library you will find the town recreational facilities.

As it is a hamlet within the township of Rhinebeck, children living in Rhinecliff attend the Rhinebeck School District.

Rhinecliff Train StationBecause Rhinecliff has the Amtrak stop and is on the banks of the Hudson River it is a popular spot for second homes for residents of New York City looking for a quick get away by rail.

There are several golf courses nearby as well as a tennis club.  For cultural activities there is the Rhinebeck performing arts Center, Upstate Films (a showcase for independent films and venue for the annual Woodstock Film Festival) and the Fisher Center at Bard College about 15 minutes away.
