Wappingers Falls Grinnell Library

History of Grinnell
The Grinnell library was first opened in 1887 at the present location, and is the sixth oldest Grinnell Librarylibrary in New York State. It was moved to this Wappingers location when it outgrew the previous location. The Wappingers Falls library system was first established in 1867 by Irving Grinnell, he was instrumental in fundraising and the architectural design of the present build; it is said that the tower part of the build was modelled after St Battenberg in Switzerland which fascinated Grinnell.


Library location
The Grinnell library is local just down the road from another historical building the Meister House. It is right on the corner of East Main Street and Spring Street at 2642 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls NY 12590. Contact number 845-297-3428.

The library is an important community resource, where you can find genealogical data, view historical collections, and most of all the library has kept up with the changes in technology and even offers WIFI connection. So next time you go by theGrinnell Library stop and take a look, you will certainly discover information about the history of the area. The Wappingers Historical Society has been instrumental in the preservation of the historical data of the area.
