When describing the age of a house the word circa should not be used as a broad term or catch all. What is circa anyway?
I am sure you have seen it used in many real estate advertisements. Take this house for example. It is a Stone House that was built c. 1706. The c. is an abbreviation for circa, and using it in front of 1706 denotes the house was built on or about 1706.
Circa is derived from a Latin word meaning around or about and in real estate advertising you will normally see this term used with very old homes, since it might not be possible to determine the exact date the home was built.

Take a few minutes to tour this true circa 1706 stonehouse located in Rhinebeck NY.
