Do you have flood insurance?
As I look outside I am seeing water in places I have not seen it before. Here in New York on the news there are countless reports of school closings, road closings and streams oveflowing their banks.
I was just thinking about the fact that many of us are lulled into a false sense of security, we might feel we are not in a flood zone, but is that really so? What if the municipal storm drains overflow - then what?
I did not get to daydream too long because my office called to let me know that an agent just showed one of my listings and the basement was full of water. So what should I do? should I drive over to the property and take a look? I quickly abandon that idea since it is unlikely that I would take a chance on crossing any unknown body of water on flooded roads.
My next step was to call the owners who recently relocated to another state. According to the owner this has never happened before there and therefore there is no sump pump. I do hope my seller had flood insurance. Hopefully, if the weather gets better tommorow I might be able to get some pictures. I am also awaiting a call back from the seller to see how I could be of assistance.
How quickly things can change.
