Dutchess County is located about 75 miles from New York City and is a second home market for many seeking a country estate or cottage. The County is accessible by air, road, and rail; there are two Metro North lines, the Harlem line in the east and the Hudson line which runs along the Hudson River,
In Dutchess County you can find a variety of homes for sale, some dating back to the 1700's. Yes, the area has a rich historical background. Many residents work in New York City. Therefore, some areas of the county are more densely populated because of proximity to the train and employment. Other parts of the county have preserved lots of open space and farms and these localities are sought after by those who want to establish a private country estate.
When buying a home in Dutchess County there will be many considerations such as:
